Notre Dame de Namur University is honored to host this year's Foothill Writers Conference, featuring many of the outstanding writers who have made this annual event a success. This three-day conference will consist of noon and evening readings as well as afternoon workshops conducted by the following poets and prose writers:

Students and teachers have the opportunity to earn one to three units of NDNU credit by attending the conference and participating in one or both of the writing workshops offered during subsequent weekends, July 9-11

EN141C/541C/941C Fiction Workshop (one unit), taught byEarning Professional Growth Units: High school and community college teachers may earn professional growth by enrolling in EN993 Creative Writing Conference (one unit), in EN941B Poetry Workshop (one unit), and/or in EN941C Fiction Workshop (one unit). The cost of enrolling in EN993, EN941B, and EN941C is $125 per unit in addition to the cost of
registration. To obtain credit for EN193 Creative Writing Conference, participants will attend the conference and maintain journals of all workshops and readings that they attend. These will be submitted to Marc Wolterbeek, Conference Director, at the end of the conference. Transcripts of completed coursework are available from the Registrar's Office upon written request; the first copy is free of charge (additional copies cost $10.00 each).Earning Undergraduate and Graduate NDNU Units: Undergraduate students may enroll in EN193/EN141B/EN141C for one to three units, paying regular tuition ($510 per unit) in addition to the cost of registration; graduate students should enroll in EN593/EN541B/EN541C for one to three units, paying regular tuition ($620 per unit) in addition to the cost of
registration. To obtain credit for EN193/593, participants will attend the conference and maintain journals of all workshops and readings that they attend. These will be submitted to Marc Wolterbeek, Conference Director, at the end of the conference.Scholarships: Foothill College and NDNU will offer four $100 scholarships to students to attend this conference. Students should write a letter demonstrating financial need to the Conference Director, Marc Wolterbeek, before June 10, 2004. Peninsula high school and community college teachers may apply for scholarships from the Peninsula Community Foundation, located in San Mateo, to attend the conference.
Enrollment in the program does not require formal admission to the University; however, participants enrolling in EN593/541B/541C or EN993/941B/941C must hold a BA degree. Registration and payment can be handled by mail. Auditors may attend the poetry and fiction workshops on a non-credit basis for $67.50 per workshop.
Conference Hours and Schedule: The conference lasts three days, consisting of readings at noon and 8 p.m. (in the Wiegand Gallery) and afternoon workshops from 2:00 to 3:15 and 3:30 to 4:45. Complimentary coffee and tea will be served in the Writing Center each morning at 11a.m. A final schedule will be available on the first day of the conference.
Conference Workshops: Participants who want their creative pieces critiqued in the afternoon workshops should sign up in the Writing Center on the first day of the conference at 11 a.m. They should bring 30 copies of the first 10 pages of stories or three poems to the workshop.
